Advocating for children’s futures

ARACY CEO Prue Warrilow and Lead for Advocacy Adam Valvasori recently met with Senator Steph Hodgins-May, the Greens spokesperson for ECEC, to discuss our shared commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.

Together, they explored how the Act for Children alliance is driving structural change through coordinated national leadership and shared insights from our Young and Wise initiative—amplifying what children say they need to thrive.

Young and Wise: Social Media and Mental Health Online Roundtable

ARACY recently hosted its first Young and Wise Roundtable, bringing together young people aged 14 to 25 from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. The online discussion provided a valuable platform for young voices to be heard on the evolving role of social media in their lives.

Participants acknowledged that while upcoming age restrictions on social media could help reduce exposure to harmful content, these platforms are often the only spaces where young people feel safe to connect, share, and seek mental health support. They called for clear, youth-friendly guidance; stronger digital and mental health literacy; and accessible, trusted services that are co-designed with young people.
